Spending Time

There is one thing in life you can never have enough of. Not love. Not money.

TIME.

Time is the one thing in this world that you can never gain back. You can’t buy it. You can’t smooth talk your way back into it. It’s eternally moving forward, forever ticking away. It’s the one thing in life that is constant and true. No matter what you do, time moves on.

How do you spend your precious time? How do you spend those disappearing moments that only live in your memories once they pass?

It’s the number one reason I believe that if you have something in your heart that you want to do, do it. Don’t hold back. Don’t slow down. Go forward and do it because the world won’t wait. The next revolution around the sun is happening faster than we realize. Hours dwindle to minutes, dwindle to seconds, diminish to memories.

What will your memories be filled with?

This is why I wrote. I feel it in me to put words on paper. I love doing it. I love creating stories and characters. It’s my calling. These moments that I do not spend with my family are for me, and writing is my passion. If I’m writing, it is time well spent.

What do you spend your time on?

Defeat

What is defeat?

chess-defeat

Does it stare you in the face?

Does it sneak up on you when you least expect it?

Does it last but a moment?

Does it linger?

I have known defeat.

I have known it as briefly as a passerby

and as long as a best friend.

How do you get rid of this feeling?

With success.

Finding your win.

Reveling in your triumphs.

Defeat isn’t permanent.

Carry on.

Repost: Meet Riley!

1Riley has always been different. The entire town she grew up in reminds her every day just how different she is. She can’t wait for the day she can escape to a new town, a new school, and a new life. College is that chance, a new beginning, a new sunrise on the darkness that was her life.

This is Riley’s chance at a new beginning. Bradford University in southern Virginia is the fresh start far from home that she has always wanted, but no matter where she goes, the shadows will always follow. Her only reprieve as she starts her new life is the possibility of friends, something she never had back home, but it quickly becomes the silver lining in her darker days.

Riley may have been labeled the psycho in her high school, but this girl is strong. She’s carried the pain of her past for too long. Now is a time of beginnings. Making new friends and unleashing the woman she has always known she could be is easier said then done, until she meets Reymend.

Rey’s all warmth and light. A comforting, gorgeous man she hopes she won’t scare away when the darkness gets too close. She wants to hold on to him, but how can she hope for so much when she has only ever had so little?

Excerpt of Guardians: “I know what you’re thinking, but before you say anything just know that I’m going to do this. I’m making a life for myself here no matter what the cost. I have friends for the first time in my life. I wake up excited to see what the day will bring. I’m finally happy! Nothing will stop me from taking this chance. Not my episodes. Not the fear of what follows me everywhere I go. Nothing. I’m doing this because for once in my life, it’s my decision.”

This girl may face darkness every day, but she knows what she wants! She’s scared, but determined. Even though she knows the shadows wait for her around every corner, sending her into blackout fits of terror, she still pushes forward. She is a real heroine even if she doesn’t understand the darkness that follows her.

Birthright, A Touched By Light Series, Book 2 of 3 – Release Date April 2019

Touched by Light Series – Book 2 Title Reveal

First, it was Guardians. The introduction to the Touched by Light Series. You met Riley. You met Rey. Their innocent budding romance. You were introduced to the world of Light and dark, Guardians and Midnight. A world no mortal could see, but Riley knew all too well. (Click here for a refresher.)

Now, we dive deeper. Introducing, Birthright.

The past teaches lessons for the future, and Riley’s past holds all the answers to her shadow riddled life. Foes greater than ever imagined. Darkness bearing down harder on Riley’s world as evil itself comes to collect what it was promised. Lies are revealed. Pain is remembered. And, the very Light that brought Riley and Rey together may not be enough to save her.

Riley has always known darkness and shadows were part of her world, but she hoped moving to a new town had taken her away from them. Her first semester at Bradford University is winding down. The race to save her soul is ratcheting up. Riley clings to the one person she hopes can keep her safe, but it is time she faced the truth. Her entire life has been leading up to her nineteenth birthday, a day her supposed Aunt had secretly prepared her for since childhood. With her past revealed and her fate seemingly sealed, Riley must make a decision that could very well end her life.

Reymend has lived two hundred years without breaking a single rule of the Guardianship, but the moment he met Riley, everything changed. He interjected himself into her life. He touched her delicate skin more times than he can admit, giving her glimpses into a world she knows nothing about. But, the one rule Rey swore he wouldn’t break may be the only way to save his Charge. When the greatest evil ever known comes to collect Riley’s soul, Rey has to face a decision no Guardian has ever had to make.

When all else fails, sing-a-long!

My husband will probably laugh at me when he reads this, but when music just isn’t hitting me right, I resort to musicals. But not just any musicals.

I want the songs that you can sing at the top of you lungs, know every word by heart, and feel deep inside the power behind each word. I want the classics like Sound of Music and Singing in the Rain. I want the new popular wave like Greatest Showman and Rent. I’ll even take animated movie soundtracks like Frozen and Moana.

adult beautiful blur casual

It may sound silly, but sometimes the familiarity and ties back to the movie, play, or original signer/actor just gives me more feels than the latest popular musician ever could. Sometimes the emotions these songs produce are more genuine than the music playing from the radio by a musician I would have to Google in order to know what they look like.

Between my daughter and I, I think we have sang every word of every song to the Greatest Showman soundtrack a hundred times. It isn’t unheard of in our house to belt out “Never Enough!” randomly as we walk around the house. Something I know my husband loves to hear! If only life were a musical.

Touched by Light Series – Book 2

The second installment of the Touched by Light Series is on its way! I’m currently aiming for an April release should all continue on the path it is on now.

Jake Clark, my fabulous cover designer who created the cover for Guardians (Touched by Light, Book 1), is on the job! We are working to capture the right design for book 2, and this man doesn’t disappoint. He captures what I want so easily. Such a great artist to work with!

My peer editors are working hard to read my novel by my requested completion date, and one is already done! Huge shout-out to my longest known friend, Corinna, for jumping in the fray and knocking it out so quickly! She has always been one of my biggest supporters in my writing dreams, and I am so thankful to have her in my life.

Lastly, me. I’m just about ready to kick this promo into high gear and introduce Book 2 of the Touched by Light Series to you. I’m starting this week, and first is the title reveal! Check back Friday, 3/8 to find out what the next book of the Touched by Light Series will be named!

Need a refresher on what this series is about? Check out my post: Guardians – Sneak Peek.

Active listening – does it exists?

Do we ever go into a conversation without expectations of what we are hoping to hear?

Think of a time you wanted to have a conversation without any other purpose than just talking. Can you? I don’t think I can either. No matter the circumstance, we always have a reason behind the conversation. We want answers. We’re lonely. We need stimulation. There is never a time you look at someone and just decide to say hello without an expectation of being responded to and for no other reason than to just say hi.

We’re wired for conversation. We crave discussion, debate, and just down right acknowledgement. We have a side to share, a story to tell, and we’ll be damned different we don’t say it, especially if we believe it is relevant to the conversation.

We aren’t programmed to listen to understand; we’re taught to listen and respond. We aren’t mentored to speak without reason; we learn to talk to our point.

If we listened more without formulating a response in our heads as the speaker is talking, we’d understand better. Active listening is paramount in any conversation, but all too few of us actually go into a conversation without finding a way to make a point out of our side of the discussion.

I need a vacation..

saulius-sutkus-403556For the love of everything that is holy, I need a freaking vacation!

I started a new job back in November, and while I have enjoyed the challenge, I haven’t had a real vacation in years! I need a break! My husband will say, but your new job gave you a week off at Christmas. Well, honey, that was only three days more than what you received, and in those three days, all I did was catch up on house work!

Side note: why does laundry never end!!

In all seriousness though, vacations are essential for working professionals. A work/life balance is great, but if you can’t unplug when you are home from all the stress then you really aren’t taking a break. Vacations are meant to unwind, to relieve your mind of the everyday weight, and rejuvenate your self.

I NEED TO GO ON VACATION! Groupon Getaways for the win! Now I just need May to hurry up and get here.

Authors I Love – Meghan March

I have been on a Meghan March kick recently! I love her novels! I have been missing my bread and butter, romance novels, recently, and have decided to go back to reading their steamy goodness. Meghan March isn’t one to disappoint.

8184875

Goodreads: Making the jump from corporate lawyer to romance author was a leap of faith that New York Times, #1 Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling author Meghan March will never regret. With over thirty titles published, she has sold millions of books in nearly a dozen languages to fellow romance-lovers around the world. A nomad at heart, she can currently be found in the woods of the Pacific Northwest, living her happily ever after with her real-life alpha hero.. She loves hearing from her readers at meghanmarchbooks@gmail.com.

I have read the Mount series (3), the Beneath These series (7), and the Savage series (3), and I have loved them all! My favorite so far has been the Mount series as there is something so sexy about an underworld alpha that softens when he meets the right woman. I hope to have singular posts about each of the novels I have read of hers, but for now, let me just say how great of a writer she is, and I can’t wait to read her next novel!

Movie Review – Bumblebee

bumblebee-poster-1-1Hubby and I don’t frequent the movies often, but he loves Transformers. The new prequel came out, and he wanted to see it. I don’t mind the Transformers movies, but they just seem to get cheesier with each iteration. Hailee Steinfield is the main character, so I figured, how bad could it be?

IMDb: On the run in the year of 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie, on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken.

Not a horrible description, but finding refuge in a junkyard doesn’t really cover it. More like, is damaged during battle so badly, he goes into sleep mode until a young girl finds him.
