We all have our demons

Take this for what you will: prose, journaling, rambling, storyboarding.

One of my demons is taunting me right now, and I don’t know if I’m strong enough to stand against it. We all have a past, a history with pieces we hope stay dormant and hibernate, never to see the light of another day in our lives again.

But here is mine. It’s rearing it’s horrid head again, and I want so badly to stop it. I want so desperately to keep it as far from the life I’ve built as possible, but it’s found me.

Now the question is, do I run, or do I stand my ground? I don’t even know if I’ll have to fight it if I stay. It could just walk right by and not even flinch as it glances over me.

But what do I do if I keep on this path and it does challenge me? What do I do if it does try and impact my life?

I’m not a coward. I don’t want to run, but I can’t be selfish. This is about a lot more than me now.

Why can’t the past stay in the past where it belongs? Some may believe nothing will come of this, but I can feel it. It’s coming for me. Now I just need to decide what I’m going to do when my demon shows its face.

Repost: Meet Reymend!

rey1Reymend may be able to blend in with the students at Bradford University, but he is nothing like an average mortal. He’s an immortal teen, a warrior for the Light, a Guardian against the darkness of Midnight. He protects mortals until they reach Guardian age, and his next Charge is Riley.

She doesn’t know it yet, but her Light, the essence within every living being’s soul, is stronger than most. Keeping her safe should be easy, but Rey’s never seen the shadows of Midnight so attracted to a mortal before. It’s never a dull moment with her as his Charge, fighting off the darkness. Midnight’s minions find her irresistible, but Rey is like a moth to the flame.

In the everlasting life of an immortal Guardian, three things always ring true. Never become involved in your Charge’s every day life. Never touch your Charge. And never allow a Connection to manifest. Rey broke the first rule, bent the second, and has tried desperately not to allow the third to happen, but Riley’s Light calls to him. A Guardian isn’t supposed to know anything other than honor and valor, but now that Riley is in his life, regardless of his Guardianship, he’s willing to do anything to keep her.

You can save her. Follow your Light.

A whisper on the wind Rey has heard in his mind as if it were his own thoughts more times than he can count since she became his charge. He knows Riley is in danger. He knows he’s the only one who can protect her from Midnight’s bidders, but who was going to protect her from him?

Repost: Meet Riley!

1Riley has always been different. The entire town she grew up in reminds her every day just how different she is. She can’t wait for the day she can escape to a new town, a new school, and a new life. College is that chance, a new beginning, a new sunrise on the darkness that was her life.

This is Riley’s chance at a new beginning. Bradford University in southern Virginia is the fresh start far from home that she has always wanted, but no matter where she goes, the shadows will always follow. Her only reprieve as she starts her new life is the possibility of friends, something she never had back home, but it quickly becomes the silver lining in her darker days.

Riley may have been labeled the psycho in her high school, but this girl is strong. She’s carried the pain of her past for too long. Now is a time of beginnings. Making new friends and unleashing the woman she has always known she could be is easier said then done, until she meets Reymend.

Rey’s all warmth and light. A comforting, gorgeous man she hopes she won’t scare away when the darkness gets too close. She wants to hold on to him, but how can she hope for so much when she has only ever had so little?

Excerpt of Guardians: “I know what you’re thinking, but before you say anything just know that I’m going to do this. I’m making a life for myself here no matter what the cost. I have friends for the first time in my life. I wake up excited to see what the day will bring. I’m finally happy! Nothing will stop me from taking this chance. Not my episodes. Not the fear of what follows me everywhere I go. Nothing. I’m doing this because for once in my life, it’s my decision.”

This girl may face darkness every day, but she knows what she wants! She’s scared, but determined. Even though she knows the shadows wait for her around every corner, sending her into blackout fits of terror, she still pushes forward. She is a real heroine even if she doesn’t understand the darkness that follows her.

Touched by Light Series – Book 2 Title Reveal

First, it was Guardians. The introduction to the Touched by Light Series. You met Riley. You met Rey. Their innocent budding romance. You were introduced to the world of Light and dark, Guardians and Midnight. A world no mortal could see, but Riley knew all too well. (Click here for a refresher.)

Now, we dive deeper. Introducing, Birthright.

The past teaches lessons for the future, and Riley’s past holds all the answers to her shadow riddled life. Foes greater than ever imagined. Darkness bearing down harder on Riley’s world as evil itself comes to collect what it was promised. Lies are revealed. Pain is remembered. And, the very Light that brought Riley and Rey together may not be enough to save her.

Riley has always known darkness and shadows were part of her world, but she hoped moving to a new town had taken her away from them. Her first semester at Bradford University is winding down. The race to save her soul is ratcheting up. Riley clings to the one person she hopes can keep her safe, but it is time she faced the truth. Her entire life has been leading up to her nineteenth birthday, a day her supposed Aunt had secretly prepared her for since childhood. With her past revealed and her fate seemingly sealed, Riley must make a decision that could very well end her life.

Reymend has lived two hundred years without breaking a single rule of the Guardianship, but the moment he met Riley, everything changed. He interjected himself into her life. He touched her delicate skin more times than he can admit, giving her glimpses into a world she knows nothing about. But, the one rule Rey swore he wouldn’t break may be the only way to save his Charge. When the greatest evil ever known comes to collect Riley’s soul, Rey has to face a decision no Guardian has ever had to make.

Touched by Light Series – Book 2

The second installment of the Touched by Light Series is on its way! I’m currently aiming for an April release should all continue on the path it is on now.

Jake Clark, my fabulous cover designer who created the cover for Guardians (Touched by Light, Book 1), is on the job! We are working to capture the right design for book 2, and this man doesn’t disappoint. He captures what I want so easily. Such a great artist to work with!

My peer editors are working hard to read my novel by my requested completion date, and one is already done! Huge shout-out to my longest known friend, Corinna, for jumping in the fray and knocking it out so quickly! She has always been one of my biggest supporters in my writing dreams, and I am so thankful to have her in my life.

Lastly, me. I’m just about ready to kick this promo into high gear and introduce Book 2 of the Touched by Light Series to you. I’m starting this week, and first is the title reveal! Check back Friday, 3/8 to find out what the next book of the Touched by Light Series will be named!

Need a refresher on what this series is about? Check out my post: Guardians – Sneak Peek.

Authors I Love – Meghan March

I have been on a Meghan March kick recently! I love her novels! I have been missing my bread and butter, romance novels, recently, and have decided to go back to reading their steamy goodness. Meghan March isn’t one to disappoint.

8184875

Goodreads: Making the jump from corporate lawyer to romance author was a leap of faith that New York Times, #1 Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling author Meghan March will never regret. With over thirty titles published, she has sold millions of books in nearly a dozen languages to fellow romance-lovers around the world. A nomad at heart, she can currently be found in the woods of the Pacific Northwest, living her happily ever after with her real-life alpha hero.. She loves hearing from her readers at meghanmarchbooks@gmail.com.

I have read the Mount series (3), the Beneath These series (7), and the Savage series (3), and I have loved them all! My favorite so far has been the Mount series as there is something so sexy about an underworld alpha that softens when he meets the right woman. I hope to have singular posts about each of the novels I have read of hers, but for now, let me just say how great of a writer she is, and I can’t wait to read her next novel!

TV Show Review – The Passage

thepassagepromo43The new Fox series The Passage is a must watch! It has been a long time since a real TV show has captured my attention, but this show has me begging for more. My husband and I just binge watched the five released episodes and cannot wait for the next one! It’s a cross between The Walking Dead, The Strain, and I am Legend.

Let’s get a closer look.

IMDb: When a botched U.S. government experiment turns a group of death row inmates into highly infectious vampires, an orphan girl might be the only person able to stop the ensuing crisis.

To whomever wrote the description, summary, and tagline, it does not do it justice. We had no idea what we were getting into when we first started to watch this show as the previews were confusing and the synopsis is vague. Based on the advertisement for the series, honestly, we probably never would have watched it on our own, but thanks to my mother-in-law and the author of the book, Justin Cronin, this show is based off of, we gave it a try. So glad we did!

Book Review: Worth the Fight by Vi Keeland

Ah! My bread and butter. I love me some steamy romance! Sometimes it’s nice to come back to home plate every now and then. I need some beautiful character building and bonding, watching a relationship grow and taking hold of two characters is so amazing. I can almost feel the magnetic pull these characters experience as the story transforms their lives from comfort to wild paths of lust and eventual serenity of love.

Deep dive coming up!18080889

Goodreads: It didn’t matter that the ref called it a clean hit. Nico Hunter would never be the same.

Elle has a good life. A job she loves, a great apartment, and the guy she’s been dating for more than two years is a catch and a half. But it’s boring…and she strives to keep it that way. Too many emotions are dangerous. Her own past is living proof of what can happen when you lose control.

Then Nico walks into Elle’s office and everything changes…for both of them. But what can the tattooed, hard-bodied MMA fighter and the beautiful and always steady attorney have in common? A lot more than they bargained for.

WordPress, what are you doing?

Related imageIf you can’t tell, I use WordPress for my website. I love it! They are leaps and bounds better than the last host I had, and I’m glad I made the switch. All around just easier for me to write, find stats, and all around utilize. Recently, however, I’m concerned with their interface changes. I like pink as much as the next person (well, maybe not as much as my daughter), but what is with the now pink buttons and coloring on most visuals?

Also, they are soon coming out with a new editor. They are allowing you to switch between classic and this new version for now, but if they ever make it mandatory, I swear I’ll lose my mind. I just don’t find it very intuitive. When I’m writing, I’m not looking for all the fancy stuff a webmaster can throw at me. I literally want something I click on maybe twice and write, post, and move on to the next.

I’m a simple gal, looking for a simple tool to broadcast my voice. WordPress, don’t get too fancy on me!

Book Review: A Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas

I know I am late to the party on this one, but I just had to give my review of this novel. I’m a sucker for historical romance as it as, so through in some fantasy and mysterious characters and I’m all in! In all, it probably took me about 8 reading hours to finish this novel. Every time I opened it, I was immediately sucked into the story and easily followed along the journey, which is hard to do with how many times I have to open and close any book between work and family demands.

Time to dig a little deeper!7896527

Goodreads: After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.

Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king’s council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she’ll serve the kingdom for four years and then be granted her freedom. Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilarating. But she’s bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her … but it’s the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.
